Thread: What no Germans

    Default What no Germans

Hi,My daughter and I tried Ancestry DNA test for xmas. We were surprised and confused to see no evidence of German ancestry in my daughter. Her grandmother (US for a few generations) was 50% German, her mother 100%.

I have read the recommended article about DNA tests in the pinned post at the top of this forum, and understand that the ethnicity identification part of this 'science' is a statistical interpretation, and that defining discrete ethnicities in this way is highly debatable. But I did expect some acknowledgement of a German connection. Family names through traditional genealogy tie with the German origins - ie there does not appear to be an adoption or other surprise factor.

Thank you for your time reading this

    Simon

A friend had her and her now deceased Mothers DNA done - her Mother had a large percentage German DNA as expected - the daughter had no German DNA whatsoever. Certainly these things do get lost when passed down - or not as the case may be!
