Default Father - Ira Lawton. Son - Engineer in what?

    Hi there,

Pretty sure the father's name is Ira Lawton (though not getting much on Ancestry for him), but cannot work out the occupation of his son. Engineer in ....

    Any ideas?

Thanks both of you! Absolutely makes sense, as he lived in Southampton.

There are a lot of Ira Lawtons on Ancestry. Mostly London or Yorkshire. Do you need any further info?

Thanks for the offer! I narrowed the search to before 1872 (Ira is listed as deceased on the 1872 marriage certificate), and for me it only brought up a few likely results. I can give it a better look when I get another Ancestry subscription at some point (I'm currently just using the indexes on FreeBMD, GRO, and the search results on Ancestry). I have a likely death in 1856, and a possible marriage in 1855, which could be one of his children I suppose.

The marriage certificate in the photo's I linked was for William Lawton, aged 27 at the time of the marriage (11th Dec 1872), but I couldn't find a marriage record for Ira on FreeBMD before 1845.

Yeah that makes sense - that would be stokers on both sides of the family, hehe!

    Thanks again!
