    Mis-filed in the MAR section of the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):

    Harold MELLOR joined the N. Staffs Regt. in September 1914 & was declared Missing Presumed Dead in January 1917.
    Regt No: 13916.
    Declared age 1914: 33y, born Leek
    Home: Fenton, Staffs
    Wife: Sarah Ann THORLEY
    Children: Harold, Norman (1906-d1914), Sarah (1913)
    Parents: Samson & Emily
    Brothers: Samson & Joseph.

    13916 Cpl Harold Mellor, North Staffordshire Regt, 7th Btn. D.25 Jan 1917, aged 38. Remembered on panel 34 of the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
    Husband of Sarah Ann Mellor of Stoke on Trent (full address on CWGC entry).

    Extra info from "Soldiers Who Died"
    Birthplace Leek, Staffs, residence Fenton, Staffs. Died Mesopotamia. KIA. Enlisted Stoke on Trent.
    1911 census: shows 4 kids- David (age 7), Martha Ellen (5), Sarah Ann (3), Agnes (11 months)
    Occupation blacksmith's striker. (more info on census page)
    Register of effects give death as "presumed" (plus similar info as above).
