    Hi

I have just found Philip & family like Grisel. And think we are on the right track here.

1851c: Ref H0107/1764/499/20 in Ely, Cambridgeshire
William Webb, Hd, 26, Brickmaker, Ely, Cambridgshire.
Hester Webb, Wife, 24, - Ely, Cambridgeshire.
John Webb, Son, 2, - Ely, Cambridgeshire.

1861c: Ref RG9/183/43/11 - 7 Green Street, Holborn, Finsbury, Middx (Not sure if HolbornFinsbury are written the right way round)
William Webb, Hd, 39, Engine Driver, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Hester Webb, Wife, 35, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
John Webb, Son, 12, Servant, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
William Webb, Son, 7, Ely, Scholar,Cambridgeshire.

I also came across another marriage that's interesting: 26 Feb 1899, St Paul's Church, St Mary Newington, London
William Valentine Stanley Webb (22, Bachelor). barman, Father: John Webb (deceased), machinist.
Constance Mabel Handover, (20, Spinster), father: Frederick Handover, Builder.

    William & Constance's address: 190 Manor Place.
Witnesses: Henry Downs & Amy Handover

Marriage BMD: Mar 1899, St Saviour, 1d, 169
    ................................

Free BMD birth: William Valentine Stanley Webb, Mar 1877, Islington, 1b, 288. GRO births have mothers maiden name as Stanley.
(So William is a younger brother to Ellen Lily Stanley Webb)

    A bit more!

1901 census: Ref: RG13/264/44/19 @ 2 Hosier Lane (The Globe Beer House),St Sepulchre, Farringdon, London

William Webb, Hd,24, M, Beerhouse keeper, Islington, London
Constance Webb, Wife, 22, Paddington, Middlesex
    Mabel Webb, 1, Newington, Surrey.
Caroline Webb, Mother, 60, Widow, Northamptonshire
John Webb, Brother, 21, S, Potman barman, Islington, London.
(This confirms that the 1871 census IS most likely correct re Philip/Kate C - they seem to like using all their given names!).

The age for John appears to be out as on GRO births:
John William Webb, Dec 1873, Islington, 1b, 297 (mmn: Stanley)

    Another possible child:
Annie Elizabeth Webb, Mar 1881, St OlaveSouthwark, 1d, 333 (mmn: Stanley).

Sorry 'Long Lost Family' on now - need to watch!!

But that should all be food for thought. Time for you to have the chance to research these new avenues! Enjoy

    Sue
