    Default Dennis Charles DRYDEN

    Hello,

I'm trying to trace a Dennis Charles DRYDEN, born c.1900.

His son, George DRYDEN, married Margaret O'REILLY on 30 Dec. 1942 in Belfast according to their marriage record on GRONI.

Unfortunately George's age is only given as FULL, and his occupation is given as "British Army", but doesn't specify what regiment or his rank. His place of residence was the Drill Hall, Augusta Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

I do not know when or where George was born, other than it was presumably before 1922 given the FULL on his marriage record, and his father is only named as Dennis Charles DRYDEN, a fruiterer.

The closest Dennis Charles I've been able to find was born in 1914.

To save quoting all of shippo's reply -
William Dryden married Sarah Jane Wilmore 13 February 1911.
I've been trying to link any Dennis Charles/Charles Dennis to a George and have failed miserably. Including when searching for children of the Dryden/Wilmore marriage. Found eight, including a baby William who was born in 1910 before William and Sarah married, but no George.
On the marriage certificate (available on Ancestry), William's occupation is given as Waterside labourer.

Who are the witnesses on the marriage certificate? Sometimes they are family members.

Do you know when George died and where? And did he have a second name?

Thank you shippo and Pam for your responses.

It definitely is confusing, assuming George's father is correctly named on the marriage certificate.

The witnesses to George and Margaret's marriage are named as Thomas J. MCAULEY and Patricia M. BROWN; I do not know if they are related to the bride and groom or not.

I do not have a birth or death date for George, nor does the marriage record include a middle-name; Margaret died 1985 in Lewisham, Kent. According to DeceasedOnline she was cremated.

I think I've identified George and Margaret in the Birmingham and Southwark Electoral Registers, but not much useful information there.

Their first daughter was born in 1944, so that birth certificate might hold clues, or a more descriptive version of George's Army occupation, but given the current pressures on the GRO I'm going to hold off ordering that until later in the year.

    How about this family.
The George A Dryden b1919 mmnFrancis poss has a brother Charles D Dryden mmn Francis 1916
A Charles Dryden married Annie Francis in 1909.
    In 1911 Charles is a market porter b 1885.
I think Charles b 1885 is Charles William rather than Charles Dennis but could be related to the William Dryden fruit hawker already found.
In 1939 Charles b 1885 and son George 1919 are at 26 Strood House close to the other family. Sorry can't check the actual record.
I am thinking that George 1919 may have believed his father was Denis Charles.
