Default HENRY HART-ROSA LYONS (NERWICH LINKS)

This new thread looks specifically at the Rosa Lyons line and her siblings. The research also identifies links to the Nerwich and Jacobs lines through marriage. These lines relate to my own Hart and Jacobs lines as will be identified. As a summary, Henry Hart 1801-1868 was the son of Benjamin Hart clothier/tailor/slop seller who died circa 1836 my 4 x great grandfather. I have posted data on each of Benjamin's children including his son John Hart who married Elizabeth Jacobs my 3x great grandparents.
The Jacobs line has been well documented on the online website Jacobsfamily tree. The lines descend from David Letson aka Lietzen aka Jacobs.

Rosa Lyons 1806-1861 wife of Henry Hart was the daughter of Benjamin Lyons- see Cemetery Scribes website Henry Hart ID 3580 and Rosa Lyons ID 3579 and photo of their tombstone at Brompton ( Fulham Road) Jewish Cemetery.

See also JewishGen UK Data base 1851 Census Anglo Jewish online website Henry Hart ID 9109 and Rose Lyons ID 9110.
Petra Laidlaw who has recorded thousands of individual Jewish names in the 1851 Census and has noted some issues regarding the data. The isues relate to Fanny Hart who was described as a daughter of Henry and Rosa. She also questioned whether the 1841 Census showing a Henry Hart,Rosa, Morris age 9 was the same family living in Somerset.
Data shows that Fanny Hart was the niece of Henry and that the Henry Hart who appears in the 1841 Census was born in Germany as later census records show and not the same person as Henry Hart born London Middlesex who married Rosa Lyons.
Fanny Hart the 'adopted daughter' and niece of Henry Hart was the daughter of Lewis Hart and Julia Levy.
Fanny was to marry Henry Simmons in 1863.
Fanny had been living with Henry and Rosa as a young child and was still living with Henry in the 1861 Census.

    Default REUBEN LEVY 1850-1885-SUICIDE

This post provides data on Reuben Levy 1850-1885 son of Lewis and Mary Ann. The Victoria Assisted and unassisted passenger lists show Reuben Levy English age 25 b abt 1851 Departure Gravesend Arrival 6 May 1874 Melbourne Australia - ship Northumberland

There are several Australian Newspaper Accounts of the death of Reuben Levy by suicide. The Age Melbourne Wed 18 March 1885 described the coroner's review. Reuben was described as age 35 merchant a fancy goods importer. He committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. He had been due to marry a widow Julia Mandelstein of Moor Street Fitzroy the day after his suicide. His cousin Percy Levy a traveller at Swan Street Richmond described Reuben as .." disturbed in his mind worrying about his business, forthcoming marriage and trouble with family at home". The coroner verdict was "he committed suicide whilst suffering from temporary insanity"

Probate was granted to Walter Joseph Little Collins Street East Melbourne, Victoria General importer partner in the firm of Levy Bros and Co 14 Little Collins Street Melbourne General imorted and joint creditor with Goodman Levy of the said firm.

Interestingly one of the debts was to I Crawcour ( The Isaac Crawcour line has been posted on in this forum and are related to me via Isaac's father David my 4x great grandfather)

Reuben is buried Melbourne General Cemetery Section A Grave no 70 ..."In loving rememberance of Reuben third and youngest son of Lewis Levy of Manchester England, died 15 March 1885 -5645 aged 35 years

The reference to Reuben being worried about family problems may in part be due to the death of his mother Mary Ann Levy GRO Death Index age 70 Chorlton March qtr 1885 8c 496 and possibly the death of Louis Levy age 70 March qtr 1885 8d 161 ( confirmation is needed to confirm that he is the father of Reuben).

I will post further on the marriage of Julia Levy sister of Reuben and her marriage to Benjamin Barnard Lyons.
As yet I have not identified clearly the relationship between the Lyons lines.
