    Thank you Grisel, yes that is the Alfred Spencer in my family. As I mentioned he would be my great uncle on my dads side of the family. He was missed by the family and dad often talked about him. However, the information I have recently uncovered and I must say with great thanks to the members of this forum the added details has added a lot to my understanding about him. I knew he was commemorated at the Thiepval memorial but did not understand that mention there is no know grave. Maybe one day he will be found and through DNA he can be brought home. I will write down all I have found for my children and grandchildren.

    The Garston Weekly News and the Runcorn Weekly News were both printed in James Street Garston ..although different story lines - wedding photos / births and deaths were published in both editions - Runcorn New Town had many Garston families who moved there - new houses with front and back gardens / Central Heating / fitted kitchens - they were like palaces to those in 2 up and 2 down terrace houses like York Street - ..Garstonite
