    Default Gravestone

HI, has anyone ever seen cube shaped gravestones, both my 2x great granparents graves one in Bishops Waltham 1899 and the other in Annan 1911 are quite large cubes, no plinths or anything else just the inscription on one face. There are no others like them in either cemetery. I'm wondering if it's meant to symbolise something.

    thanks for any help

Hi Tracey, these were blocks of granite from lighthouses. I guess one or more of you great grandfathers was a lighthouse keeper? The stones were about a cubic yard square and weighed in at 1.5 tons in weight.
Quite a feat to get them delivered to a cemetery in late Victorian times.
