    Hi Dean,

There's no such thing as a free lunch, and family history ain't free either. (Unless another relative comes forward and can fill in the gaps for you!)

You need Scotlandspeople which has three plain John Lowe's born in 1917 - in Maryhill, Camlachie, and Turriff. The latter is in Aberdeenshire, the other two seem to both be parts of Glasgow. You will just have to hope that the John's were born on different days. Otherwise you'll have to resort to plan B which involves obtaining a copy of the marriage certificate which will hopefully tell you John's father's name and occupation.

Do you know if John was actually in the navy when he married Edith?
Service records for personnel who served after 1921 are still held by the Ministry of Defence, and will cost you thirty quid (plus you will need a copy of the person's death certificate). Full details here https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...757#post585757

However, until 1972 the navy gave their full records to the person when they were discharged so few details are still held by the MoD. Scroll down to Royal Navy in this article.

    Hi Pam
thanks for your help , as always , I don't wish to spend any money until I am sure its the right person ! , I have already started the ball rolling re his records .
I will cross check the names you have suggested , family rumour 'says' he was born in Glasgow .
I forgot all about Scottish people site , I will have a look .
