This new thread should be read in conjunction with earlier threads -Leonard Henry Courlander started 9.7.2013; Norton and Louis Courlander started 19.11.2009.

My interest in the Barnett Billig lines are through recent contact with a Billig distant relative. My relationship to the Courlander/Billig/Hill lines is through Louis Courlander and Gertrude Hart and their daughter Ethel Frederica Courlander who married Leo Semjen Hirschberg aka Lionel Hill. Gertrude Hart was the daughter of Aaron Hart and Ann Rebecca Crawcour my 3x great grandparents.
David Billig son of Barnett and Malia aka Millie married Rossi Hill the daughter of Leo and Ethel.

At least one Ancestry.Co public family tree has the last name of Barnett Billig as Nimerovski but I have yet to confirm this.

In this post I will provide initial data on Barnett Billig/Malia ( last name unknown).

The 1911 Census confirmed that Barnett and Malia had 10 children 5 had died by 1911. Having looked at the GRO Death Index from 1880 to 1911 ( Barnett and Malia were married circa 1877 and do not appear in earlier census)there is only 1 death for a Billig and that is Joseph Billig age 13 1906 Whitechapel Vol 01C 193.

Four of the Billig children became doctors-Hannah,Isaac aka David,Miriam,Rebecca. Isaac Levy changed his first name to David 1904-1984. Miriam 1907-1994 married Joseph D'Arcy (GRO Marriage Index Sept qtr 1930 Holborn 1b 1461.

There is a range of online documentation for Hannah Billig including a Blue plaque. She appears in the London School Admission and discharge records-father Barnett Billig 83 Ernest Street born 4.10.1901 Millwall School Tower Hamlet. Admission 31.3.1913.Transferred to the Jews Free School scholarship 10.9.1915.

The online records for Hannah include her medical service in Cable Street where she was known as "The Angel of Cable Street" for her service to the local community as a doctor and friend. In 1939 Hannah was living at 198 Cable Street Stepney London Medical practitioner single b 4 Oct 1901 single.
She received bravery and other awards during WW2.
She served in the RAMC during WW2 and was a Captain. She retired to Jerusalem. Her probate -Hannah Billig,Geriatric Hospital died 11 July 1987 Pardess Haria Israel £290980
