St. Helena Island research - early 1800's

Are there any good online resources for finding people who were on St. Helena between the years 1816-1824. Ancestor was stationed at Cape of Good Hope and Port Elizabeth in South Africa, but at least one of his step-daughters (and possibly both dau's) spent time on St. Helena as a child. Perhaps parents thought it safer for the children to be on St. Helena rather than going on to the Cape of Good Hope. I assume that at some point, the girls parents were also on St. Helena to bring the girls home.

Any suggestions of where I might start a search - passenger records of ships docking at St. Helena, lists of inhabitants, church records, etc.?

Even Cyndislist proved a failure for anything at all.

St Helena's Wikipedia entry didn't come up with anything very useful apart from the fact that the East India Company and the British East India Company had quite a say in the affairs of the island.
