My uncle George Cecil Pearce service number 6083915 fought at Tobruk 1940/41. He was wounded, taken prisoner and held in a German field hospital before being repatriated home. He finished the war as RAF ground crew.
I am looking for any details of his army career.
N.B. he was mentioned in the London Gazette on 30/12/1941.

The MOD has not yet released WW2 service records for online publication, but family members can buy a set. It'll cost 30 quid and a copy of the relative's death certificate.
See HERE for details.

Hi
With his army service number, it is in the block - The Queen's Royal Regiment 6076001 - 6132000 , so initially he joined up in that regiment.
As Christina said, get his service records first. Then you know which war diaries to search for at National Archives UK.

Hi
You don't mention whether your uncle is still alive. If so he can get his own records for free.
Have you seen this article, with comments, about the repatriations?
