    Default All about the spellings.

Hi - Not used Brit Gen for years. People on here were so helpful last time I got stuck I was able to make lots of progress. Once I'd found out my surname had been Anglicised and I wasn't who I thought I was, it got easier. Who knew I was a Ciantar, not a Cranton!

Welcome back to the Brit-Gen forums
A few things have changed here over the years but our members still love to help others solve their genealogy puzzles.
I think a lot of us have some experience with the spelling of our surnames as we move back through the centuries when spelling wasn't deemed to be so important or consistent but yours surely was a big change. A lot of wildcards would have been used in the research eg C*nt*
Looking back at your old threads I see Pam Downes, who is now a moderator was involved in finding the change of surname. She will be pleased to see you back with us.
