In the 1891 census, have a look at Jemima JONES in Chirk.

Rule number 1. Never believe everything you see in a census record. Apart from possible transcription errors for the years 1841-1901 inclusive, our ancestors lied.

I wouldn't mind betting that Peter has found the correct person, and because 'hubby' David was a bit younger than her, Jemima shaved four years off her true age.

Check out the birth registrations of the two children on the GRO website which gives the mother's maiden name. In this case, Roberts, for both David Wynn born in 1896 and Mina Fanny Augusta born in 1898, Owestry registration district.
    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/c...ates/login.asp

Depending on how much you're willing to pay to solve the mystery, the PDF copy of the birth certificate (available for seven quid from the GRO site previously given) for either of the children should give the mother's name as Jemima Jones late Davies formerly Roberts.

THe only possible marriage I could see on FreeBMD was in March quarter 1899 Wrexham registration district with a David Jones and a Jemima Jones on the same page as a William Evans and a Sarah Ann Jenkins. Wrexham town is not that far from Chirk, and other places in the registration district might be even nearer.

The children both have the mmn Roberts:

JONES, DAVID WYNN mmn ROBERTS GRO Reference: 1896 S Quarter in OSWESTRY Volume 06A Page 673

JONES, MINA FANNY AUGUSTA mmn ROBERTS GRO Reference: 1898 J Quarter in OSWESTRY Volume 06A Page 652

In 1911 the family is still in Chirk, and Jemima is 52 (c1859) & born St Martins, Shropshire

By 1939 she seems to have dropped quite a few years off her age, giving a DoB of 14 Jan 1868.

In 1891 David Jones may be in Ruabon aged 28, single & a Joiner

There is a possible marriage in 1895, Wrexham RD, David Jones & Mina Davies

Do you have her birth certificate as the only one I can see was registered in 1858, although it was Q1 so could certainly include a Nov/Dec 1857 birth.

The DoB on the 1939 register looks like its been over-written, so may originally have been 14 Jan 1858.

There is a death in Wrexham RD in 1958 for a Jemima Jones aged 85 (born c1858).

Date of birth 14 Jan 1858, according to the baptism register for St Martins. I don't know where 1857 came from.

Thank you so much, Peter , Pam and others for being so helpful, and yes losing 4 yearss to get married again seems likely.
Is there an online link to 'flip thru' the parish register at St Martins?
