the newspaper obit (1853) for a man in my tree calls him a "Distributor of Stamps". I googled the phrase and apparently the poet William Wordsworth had held this position in Westmorland. Do you think it means nothing more than postmaster ? I assumed it meant paper stamps but perhaps we are talking about franking stamps
