Many thanks to you and your team, as always.

As Bev says, if you feel like giving the FreeCEN team some help, please contact Bev via this thread. Maybe,if you’re still staying home more than usual, you could spend some of the unexpected free time doing something interesting, and feel virtuous at the same time?

I'm wondering why FREECEN is transcribing the 1881 census. My understanding is that the original 1881 transcription dating from the 1980s, I think, is available online free of charge. Have I misunderstood the situation? Otherwise I can't see the value of transcribing it again.

    Hi Peter
Many thanks for your email. I quite understand your comments.
The hope of Freecen is to have all the 19th century census transcriptions in one place so that researchers know where they can come for all census years.
There is absolutely no pressure on volunteers to work on any particular county or year. However, some folk wish to work on one county ond if 1881 is all that is available seem happy to do that.
    Best wishes Bev
