Ethel May Brownhill, one of Frank;s sisters, never married but trained as a nurse, midwife, and is on the UK, Physiotherapy and Masseuse Registers, 1895 -1980. In later life she lived in Cornwall and died there
19 February 1962. Probate 4182 pounds 10 shillings to Lloyds Bank.
Another sister Elsie Mary Brownhill also remained single and died age 95 March 1/4 1978 registration district Sedgemoor Somerset. probate 1260 pounds. At one point she is on the Electoral roll in Yorkshire but in the 1939 register she is a domestic servant on the Isle of Wight in the household of Lilian and Edna Lyons.
The youngest sister Lilian appears to have married an Ernest William Lyons who served in WW1 and his service record survives and is on ancestry.com. So it appears that Elsie May was living with her sister Lilian Lyons nee Brownhill on the 1939 register on the Isle of Wight. The sisters may not have left England but they certainly didn't stay in Walsall.
Lilian married Ernest William Lyons in Cornwall 1917 so was she with her eldest sister Ethel May then? Possible death Holywell Flintshire October 1966 age 82.
On the 1939 register with Lilian Lyons nee Brownhill is an Edna N Lyons born 1922 and she married a Maynard according to the addition to her surname. The marriage is on FreeBMD Dec 1/4 1949 registration district Southampton. Spouse Stanley H Maynard. There are two possible births to this couple, a son in 1951 and a daughter in 1954 both on FreeBMD.

From the 1871 census I gave you of the Brownhill siblings I looked up the births of Mercy and Silas on the GRO index, being the most unusual names, and they are there with the mother's maiden name Johnson although mercy's does not have a first name for her so they probably hadn't decide what name they were going to give her.
As the parents of these children were married prior to registration we are reliant on parish records and familysearch.org has this marriage and it is on ancestry.

Christina, My goodness, Elizabeth Johnson/Brownhill was inundated with children! Not surprised the poor lady died young. That is just such an interesting family, with the varying occupations etc. Thank you so much for checking this out. I am sure my friend will be interested and amazed.

I am becoming overwhelmed with all this hard work Christina. Having trouble keeping up!! Interesting the transcription switched to Ferm instead of Fenn. Well found by you. I think you have covered every single person, so have a well earned rest. Thank you again, very much.
Pam, I live in NSW Aust and phoned our library today about whether they subscribe to Ancestry or Find My Past. The main centre (which is next town on from where I live) does have one computer with a licence to look at Find my Past, so if I want to use it I have to go there, and if no-one else is using it I can, apparently for free. I have never heard that service is offered here before (and I had volunteered at the Council run town museum for 4 years, only ceasing to devote my time to sewing stillborn quilts and premmie baby hospital gowns etc). So thanks for that suggestion. Since starting this response I see another reply has come in from UK ... you are also so helpful. The nicest thing about family history is the help offered.

Almach, thank you for the direct references to the grave, adds colour and definition! I found an interesting article about the collieries in the area, with evidence Samuel managed Pool Hayes colliery. Mary's brother, William, came to Australia to work in the coal industry.

The 1871 Census at post #14 above lists a William Robert Fenn, age 19 (born c. 1852). The Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate, 24 Dec 1919, reported the death of a William Robert Fenn, age 67 (born c 1852). Frank Herbert's war record has William Fenn, Cessnock Street, Kurri Kurri as one of next of kin.
