    1861 census
    RG 9 Piece380 Folio 86 page 21
Geo Jackson 38 Salt hawker born Gibralter. BS. On the 1871 census he is born Camberwell Surrey.
    Elizabeth Jackson 38
    Elizabeth F Jackson 13
    George H Jackson 9
    Phebe M Jackson 8
    Marian A Jackson 6
    James C Jackson 6
    Charlotte E Jackson 4
    Alice L Jackson 2
    Henry W Jackson 1

To check that this is the correct family I looked up Phoebe M's (Marias) birth on the GRO index and the mother's maiden name is Hewson. Also Charlotte E's (Ellen) mmn Hewson.

There is a baptism for a George John Jackson
in the London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1917 But the father's name is not John
George John Jackson baptised at St Leonards Hackney 27 August 1820, born 9 June 1820 Parents Robert Jackson an excise officer and Mary Jackson. They were living at Paul St.

    There is this 1841 census
    HO107 Piece 1051 Book 4 Folio 27 Page 13
Elm Houses? St Giles Camberwell, Dulwich
John Jackson 48 Merchant Born in county Yes
Mary Jackson 42 Does't say Yes but can't read what it does say.
    John Jackson 21 Yes
    Marian Jackson 20 Yes
    Frank Jackson 17 Yes
    Caroline Jackson 14 Yes
    Ellen Jackson 9 Yes
    James Jackson 7 Yes
    Henry Jackson 6 Yes
    Julia Jackson 10 Months Yes

This could be the birth registration of Julia age 7 months
Julia Jackson mother's maiden name FLOWER
    GRO Reference Dec 1/4 1840 CAMBERWELL Vol4 Page 41.

I have just found a public tree on ancestry with this family on it and they have a marriage parish image for John Jackson to a Maria Baxter at Lambeth in 1818 and they have the 1841 census I found above so either I have the wrong birth reg for Julia or they have the wrong marriage. On the marriage record John is a bachelor and Maria a spinster. The witnesses were Richard W Oldham and Lucy Barnet

Ok I have just been rereading what I found earlier this morning and I made a mistake in the 1841 census above in that I got mixed up and looked for a John Jackson born 1822 +/- 2 years with a father John when I should have been looking for a George as the first name.
The census itself is that of a John Jackson who married a Mary Ann Flower as confirmed by the birth reg of Julia age 7 months. So the trees on ancestry have the wrong census for a Jackson/Baxter marriage.

    From familysearch.org
Marriage 8 Feb 1819 at Saint Botolph's Church Aldgate, London, England
    John Jackson, single.
Spouse - Mary Ann Flower, single.

Looking in FS for possible siblings born in Gibralter brings a John Jackson in Camberley in 1851, dealer in salt married to Maria L. This John seems to have married Maria Louisa Jelf or Jeff in 1848 in Lambeth. On the parish wedding cert his father is John Jackson, dealer in salt.

Because of the Gibraltar births, I think John Jackson senior may have been in the military.
I am rather taken with a John Jackson b 1792 Nantwich who turns up as a Chelsea pensioner on Camberwell married I think to a Sarah Elizabeth Fruin born Chatham. However no links with salt apart from the Nantwich birthplace(which is what drew me to him) so probably a red herring! He is in Waterloo St in 1841 (p1050 f 37 p 35), John St in 1851 ( p1580 f404 p 30) and never with sons George or John. But I keep coming back to that family. Maybe someone can eliminate them for me....
