I was going to say that this might be a red herring, but I don't think it is.
After several goes at various things came to nought, I thought I'd try searching just for Gray, living in Sheppey in 1939. No Charles, but there was a Frances Kathleen, born 1904, with two redacted entries followed by William R, born 1927 and George W born 1930.
Checked out William R's birth registration - mother's maiden name Parr.
Marriage registration Milton (Kent) registration district, December quarter 1922, Charles S Gray and Kathleen F Parr. The bride's first name and initial being t'other way doesn't bother me because two of my relatives did the same with their names. (And caused me problems in my initial research, but that's another story.)
Possible death registration for her Kathleen F, aged 65, Chatham registration district Mar quarter 1969.
Birth registration which would tie in with the marriage district, Kathleen Frances Parr, September quarter 1904, Milton registration district.
Just need you to write to 'them' to get them to correct the indexed name of Grisby. And the second name of Barnard, though how they managed to make it that when it's clearly Samuel will forever remain one of life's mysteries.
