Home address: Wellingborough, Northants.
Served apprenticeship as a Currier (Leather Worker) in Northampton to 1902.
Signed up for the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry on 11 April 1903, age 19y 5m.
(gave name as Martin Charles Bartholomew FINN)
Served as Pte/Lance Corporal 7325 until 1910, when he was in Kimberley, SOUTH AFRICA and transferred to the Army Reserve.
Probably joined the Police in S Africa (1910 address: Police Barracks, Kimberley).
Married Margaret Johanna SWART(?) in Kimberley, 1912.
Home address: MASERU, BASUTOLAND (now LESOTHO).
Mobilised in August 1914. Stayed with a Mrs Negus in Wellingborough, pre-embarkation.
Served briefly with the Queens Regt, then transferred to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers (Acting Sergeant 24130).
Discharged May 1916 and returned to S Africa.
