Served as Pte/Lance Corporal 7325 until 1910, when he was in Kimberley, SOUTH AFRICA and transferred to the Army Reserve.

Probably joined the Police in S Africa (1910 address: Police Barracks, Kimberley).
Married Margaret Johanna SWART(?) in Kimberley, 1912.
Home address: MASERU, BASUTOLAND (now LESOTHO).

Mobilised in August 1914. Stayed with a Mrs Negus in Wellingborough, pre-embarkation.
Served briefly with the Queens Regt, then transferred to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers (Acting Sergeant 24130).
Discharged May 1916 and returned to S Africa.
