Default Curious about an entry on 1871 census

I downloaded the 1871 image for a William Rickman.
The schedule was for "Military Forces Occupying Chatham Barracks"
I noticed that some of the entries above William's record had in the "Rank, Profession or Occupation" column had things like
"In hospital with sick child", "Sick in hospital" etc.
Now was there a hospital in the Barracks? Or were they away in a Public Hospital and the person completing the schedule listed everyone who was usually in the Barracks?
FYI, William was recorded as "Colonel"

From doing a quick on line search it appears that Chatham military hospital was Fort Pitt

By the 1870s this is post the Crimea War and Florence Nightingale. So all major military establishments would have had their own hospitals.
