    Default Private M Brett

    Hi
I'm looking for any information on,
Private M Brett 7236, 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers.
M Brett served in South Africa and I have part of his records from there.
I can't find his first name, birth place and whether he stayed on in South Africa.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Frank

Welcome to the British Genealogy Forum.
It might be easier to help if you supplied a little more information. When you say that he served in S.Africa, do you mean the Anglo Boer Wars or WW1? Do you know what his forename was?

No Lesely I have only seen the medal roll on the Anglo Boer War website,
which just gives his initial, surname and unit, thanks.

I'm afraid I don't see any other reference to this man apart from the WO100 medal roll which only supplies initials.

Unfortunately not all service records survived.

Do you just have the medal or is the ribbon attached? There were 26 clasps awarded in recognition of involvement in various campaigns and actions.

Added. Find My Past Index lists M Brett, private. In 2nd Batt, Royal Irish Fusilliers (Princess Victoria's)

From the medal rolls on Ancestry he was awarded the Belmont clasp in 1902, and clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, and South Africa 1902, in 1903, after the battalion had moved to Rawalapindi. In the column headed "Any other corps in which he served in South Africa" is the entry "68/B/2719"
