Hi, I am new to the site. I am searching for ancestors in and around Ancoats/collyhurst in the 1800s, I do have a marriage certificate which shows my GGG grandparents married in St Pats RC church in Manchester. However, the rest of the records appear to be C of E for the family. How do I find Catholic records as they seem to be lacking on Ancestry and other sites,
Thanks

This may help

A little job for after lockdown perhaps.
You may want to ask Lancashire Archives what the policy is about putting the registers online.

Thank you so much. Do you have any knowledge around why a couple for example might marry in a catholic church but then appear to use C of E for their childs baptism etc??

Maybe they belonged to different churches. I have a family in the early 1800s in Clayton le Moors, Lancashire who baptized all the children Anglican until the volcano erupted in 1816 and father dragged all his small children to the Catholic priest to be re baptized. When he realized the world wasn't ending he gave up again. Father was Catholic, mother Anglican.
