After literally years and years of collecting Family History Photos and really not preserving them, labelling them, or looking after them with the care that they deserved, I have finally decided to re-organise, digitise, scan, catalog, label and store my photo collection.
After years and years of thinking about it and putting it off I have finally made a start, I will be documenting the whole process from choice of materials, storage, media etc and wanted to share with you the process. I looked online on various forums and websites, to get tips and ideas, and I think it's certainly worthwhile reading and looking at examples of what others have done, which is why I wanted to share this with you.

Thanks Chiddicks.
I have inherited a voluminous collection of family snaps - some very large ones of employee groups, village picnics etc - that I have no idea how to store. I'll be reading about your progress with interest.

I think that’s the problem, we either inherit or collect vast amounts of photos over the years with no real idea or plan of what to do with them, which is why I started to write about the whole process. If I had found a similar thing myself a few years ago it might have prompted me to organise mine a lot sooner!

One suggestion I would make to anyone scanning photos is to enlarge the paper size to enable the photo to hold a description or key under the photo.
This could be as short as a person's name or a key such as the one here on a group photo.
