I also have a 3rd cousin helping me and she has came across information from the David Clarke passenger list.

So, she decided to track down the Rogerson connection first and this is what she found –

Frank Rogerson (1745 - ) Married: Mary Lockerby
They had 3 children (James, William & John)

    1.James Rogerson (1765 - ) Married: Agnes Graham

    2.William Rogerson (1767 – 1836) Married: Janet Jardine (1765 – 1841)
    They had a Child (George)
    George Rogerson (1800 – 1869) M Janet Tweedie (1816 – 1848) and then Married: Agnes Fleming ( - )
George & Janet had a child (Elizabeth)
    Elizabeth Rogerson (1832 – 1875 ) & John McNay (C1832 – 1858)

    3.John Rogerson (1771 – 1859) Married: Nicholas Johnston (1776 – 1860)
They had 3 children (Janet, William & Francis)

Janet Rogerson (1812 - ) died in Victoria – was on board David Clark into Melbourne 1839 with McNays.
William Johnston Rogerson (1816 – 1891) he also came to Victoria and died here.
Francis Rogerson (1820 – 1868) died at Kangaroo Flat, Victoria - was on board David Clark into Melbourne 1839 with McNays.

So, Janet and Francis Rogerson who came to Melbourne with James McNay and his family in 1839, were children of John Rogerson, who was brother to William Rogerson, who was a father to George Rogerson and who was father to our Elizabeth Rogerson.

That makes another connection between our "McNays" and the Moonee Ponds "McNays" (James McNay).

    Surely it's not a coincidence!

George & Janet had 8 children
Elizabeth (partner to my John McNay), Margaret (1835-????), William (1837-1905), Janet (1839-1840), Grace 1842-????, Sarah (1842-1918), Agnes (1847-1927) & James (1848-1915).

We also have a piece of paper that Agnes McNay (nee Warren) had written on.

    Agnes McNay/nee Warren (1876-1929) Letter.
This is what was written on the paper.

Uncle Archo McNay, Tamleigh West, Victoria.

Uncle William Rogerson, Lockerbie, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.

Aunt Agnes Rogerson & Mr Robert Tait (1837-1919) from Lochmaben, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.

Aunt Margaret & Mr Johnston, Liverpool, England.

    ----------------------------------------------
So going by my family tree.

Uncle Archo McNay (1829-1909), Tamleigh West, Victoria.
He is the one who links back to James McNay & Jane (Jean Johnstone)

Uncle William Rogerson (1837-1905), Lockerbie, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.
This is Elizabeth Rogerson’s brother, and therefore Agnes Warren nee McNay’s uncle.

Aunt Agnes Rogerson (1847-1927) & Mr Robert Tait (1837-1919) from Lochmaben, Dumfries-shire, Scotland (Married)
This is Elizabeth Rogerson’s sister, married to Robert Tait, and therefore Agnes McNay/nee Warren’s auntie.

Aunt Margaret & Mr Johnston from Liverpool, England.
This is Elizabeth Rogerson’s sister, and therefore Agnes Warren nee McNay’s auntie

    ----------------------------
So all those name match up, except Archibald McNay of Tamleigh West, Victoria. His father is James McNay. Archibald had 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
John (1826-1860) He passed away in Melbourne from drowning.
Jane McNay (1833-1891) She married John Thomson (1825-1875)
Gilchrist McNay (1839-1923) He was born at sea, on the David Clark ship.
Margaret McNay (1842-1918) She married Alexander McTavish (1830-1880)
Lillias McNay (1845-1932) She married Thomas William Armistead (1841-1929)

So not sure how Agnes McNay/Nee Warren knows Archibald McNay

Here are some John's I have on my tree.

    My John - https://www.

    ancestry.com.au/family-tree/tree/167495082/family/familyview?cfpid=422173753321&selnode=1

Its been 2 years and I still have no more information for my brick wall "John McNay"
However, I have found a link between My "John McNay" and the McNays of Bradyburn Farm, Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, Scotland.
John's partner/wife Elizabeth Rogerson (1833-1875) had a brother James Rogerson (1845-1915), who married Mary Howat (1851-1908). Mary had a sister Jane Howat (1953-1933). Jane Howat and John McNay (1833-1916) of Brandyburn Farm got together shorty after 1879, after John's first wife Mary Wilson (1831-1879) passed away.

Many of the dates you’ve mentioned fall after BMDs were issued. Have you been to Scotlands People?

Not sure if this helps, but there is a possibility for John in 1851 at Meikle Firth House, Urr, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire - transcribed on Ancestry as Mc Nac but on Scotland's People and FmP as McNae, working as an Ag Lab:

Andrew Hyslop 56 born Urr, Kirkcudbright, Farmer Of 263 Acres & Employing 7 Ag Labs
Amelia Hyslop 53 wife born Urr, Kirkcudbright
James Minzies 21 Ag Lab married, born Glenarm, Dumfries
James Waugh 22 Ag Lab born Holywood, Dumfries
William Sinclar (Smolar on Anc) 23 Shepherd born Battle (s/b Buittle?), Kirkcudbrightshire
John McNae 18 Ag Lab born Drysdale [Dryfesdale], Dumfries
John Herries 15 Ag Lab born Urr, Kirkcudbright

    Hi Jomot1,
Do you have a link to these, as I can't find any of them. I even used the other names mentioned, and still can't find that record.
<Edited> I just found it on FMP, but I don't have a paid subscription to view it. Found it on Ancestry as well.

    Thanks.

The only place you can view the census image is on Scotland's People, but you'll need to buy a few credits first as its a pay-per-view site.

I suggest that when you visit SP again, you also take another look at the other records, maybe with spelling variations. There's a thread on using the site HERE If the marriages happened in Scotland after 1855, they should be there, maybe plus or minus a year or two.
For events before 1855, they have now added Catholic and other church records to those of the Church of Scotland.
