    Default Mentioned in dispatches

Is there any way of discovering the action that resulted in a LAC being mentioned in dispatches, promulgated in the London Gazette on 1 January 1941?

This is a question that is often asked, often in conjunction with a medal being awarded - think you will find many thread titles similar to yours if you scroll down the army/WW2 forums in particular.

And if I remember correctly, the answer is either find the war diaries for that day (not sure how that applies to the RAF though) and/or try to find a mention of the person in the local newspapers.

Do you have the person's service record, which might say something about it. (No guarantee.)

Thanks, Pam. You have confirmed what I suspected: there's no short cut!
