    Hello,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

By the sound of things you've come to us via Forces War Records, and if so, this will explain our connection.
    https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...rs-Please-Read

Service records for everyone who served after 1921 are still held by the Ministry of Defence. This will tell you how to apply as well as providing links to the forms you have to send.
    https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...757#post585757

In addition to the forms you need to send a cheque for thirty pounds and a copy of his death certificate. You don't need to know his service number, but you will need his date of birth. Which you already know.

If you don't have a copy of the death certificate then apply to the GRO.
    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Assuming he died in Havering registration district, then exactly quote Henry Albert A Burgess (note the extra A), third quarter 1970, volume number 5c page number 105.

In the present Covid19 situation expect it to be at least five months before you have a reply from the MoD.

Incidentally, if you didn't know about Henry's third name you can find out what it was by searching the probate calendar. (Make sure you click the 'correct years' tab.)

How did you find out his middle name was Albert.
    From his death registration. https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Also his second and third names are in the Probate Calendar.

If you do have to obtain a cop of his death certificate, I cannot emphasise enough that you must apply using
Henry Albert A Burgess. Any deviation will result in the GRO saying there is no record, even if you fill in all the other details, such as registration district, volume and page number, etc.

    Hi Pam

I have been on GRO there is a gap in the records which my Grandad falls under 1970 so I guess that is already the end of it.

I think you're looking in the wrong box on the GRO site. You're looking at the death indexes, which go from 1837-1957, and then 1984-2019.
The box you should tick after you've signed in is 'order a certificate'.

FreeBMD is a partial transcription of the GRO Index. (Currently, mainly complete to 1983, with 1984-1992 now being worked on.)
    https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
    Look for Henry on there.
List of places on Havering district.

I presume the death registration I found plus the entry in the probate calendar tie up to your Henry. If not, then we'll have to go back to the drawing board.
