    It's always worth checking all sources for information about a soldier. Some sites have info that others don't.

    In this case I searched Ancestry which had a transcript for a David Scott in its Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Admissions and Discharges 1715-1925 collection. This confirmed his birthplace as Grinton, Orkney Islass (sic) and his birth year 1871. It also quoted his service number, 21875.

    The original document is only available on Fold3, so I went back to Findmypast and entered the service number 21875.

    His service record is pretty impressive, isn't it?

    yes I guess it is an impressive record. I have no expertise in interpreting military records - he appears to have several medals and clasps and been of "exemplary character".


    I haven't been able to work out when either his wife or sister died, but those can wait for another day.
