Smile Naval and Military Court Marshall registers

On Ancestry, it indicates that one of my ancestors is on the Naval and Military Court Marshall Register. For further information, it is directing me to the Fold 3 website. Is there likely to be any futher information and is there anyway I can obtain this without subscribing to the site? I want to know what he did and if there was a consequence.

    Many thanks

    Alison

    Hi Alison

I don't know what may be in those records on Fold3 as navy is not my interest, but it may be original documents. Apart from taking out a free trial or waiting until they have a free weekend, there is no way to avoid a subscription to the site. If you do the free trial ensure you cancel your membership before it finishes, or you will be charged. Also you should search other family members who may have other records while you are on it!

    regards

I've seen the army ones from around 1830. They tell you what the crime was such as stealing or desertion BUT no details of the crime, where the court martial took place and the punishment.

However, I would agree with Robert wait for a free trial - maybe Ancestry will offer one in May to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2?

Thank you. It says you can take out a free 7-day trial but as it is an American based site, I'm concerned it might be difficult to cancel and not even sure what the sterling price would be.

Also the normal free trial may not include Fold 3 so you need to look for one specific to Fold 3

    Hi

Just looked on Fold3, you can do a free trial on it, obviously separate from Ancestry.
No idea how to cancel though, you may have to be doing it to find that out.
