Default Herbert John Price Jones Military Information

    Hi all:
I am looking for any information for subject person. He was presumably posted to Ontario, Canada during 1942 with the British Commonwealth Air Training Programin either the London, Ontario or Trenton/Picton, Ontario areas All my mother told me was that my biological father was called "Ginger" Jones and he was from South Wales. DNA matches lead me to believe subject is that person. He died in 1960 from suicide in Newport, Gwent, Wales.
My mother registered birth under husband's name but he was overseas at the time. No luck there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Jim

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums Jim
if you came to us from Forces War Records reading this will explain the connection.
Unfortunately we can't help with WW11 service records as they are still held by the MoD. You can apply for them but you will need a copy of the death certificate, 30 pounds and a lot of patience during a lengthy wait for them to be delivered.
Here is the link where you can download the application forms. Read carefully first to make sure you are eligible to receive the information you are after.
I see you have a comprehensive tree for this man on ancestry.com

    Hi Jim
On the application form there is an asterisk next to the regimental number required. Move down the page and it says
    * SERVICE NUMBER AND/OR DATE OF BIRTH MUST BE INCLUDED

So if you have his date of birth you do not need his service number.

    His birth appears to be...

JONES, HERBERT JOHN PRICE (mother's maiden name PRICE)
GRO Reference: 1904 D Quarter in NEWPORT, MON Volume 11A Page 218

Use that reference to obtain a birth certificate.

If the combination of forename and surname are very common the RAF will sometimes insist on a service number. I have direct experience of that.
