Default Genealogist in the Llanegryn area?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could recommend a reliable genealogist who I could hire to undertake a search for information in the Dolgelly, specifically Llanegrn area. It would be useful if that person lived locally to that area in order to access local archives and perhaps graveyards as I cannot travel to Wales.

The timeline I’m interested in is pre 1850 in relation specifically the ancestors of William Davies (1850-1904), a joiner/house carpenter and Mary Pugh (1820-1884) who married in Liverpool on the 5th August 1846, the first child Mary Ann being born in Liverpool in 1849 and the subsequent five other children all born in Llanegryn. At the time of William’s birth on the 15 Nov 1850, the family lived at 31 Plas Newydd, Rhydyrhiw, LLanegryn, Dolgelly, Merionethshire, Wales.

The Father of this William Davies was another William Davies, a labourer who was deceased by the time of William (1850) marriage in June 1879, and the Father of Mary Pugh was Evan Pugh, a stone mason. I have all the birth, marriage and death certificates and census returns subsequent to 1841, with the exception of William Davies the labourer.

I would expect to pay the average hourly rate for an agreed search criteria. Does anyone know of a genealogist that may be based in this particular geographical area and may be interested in undertaking this task?

I don't know anyone personally but you could try the Association of Genealogists & Researchers in Archives (AGRA). You can search for a someone in the area on the website.

Alternatively, the Archives themselves may have a list of local researcher. They don't usually recommend one particular person - just provide a list.

Thanks Pam, I'll try that, I really want someone with local knowledge of any records that are available in that area as I can search any records available on the internet myself.

Again, thanks for that lead Pam, it's enabled me to contact a genealogist who specialises in the Merionethshire/Gwynedd area.

Pleased to have been of use. Hope the genealogist is even more useful.

I would suggest that you approach Gywnedd Archives or Gwynedd FHS and see if they can help:

    https://www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/en/Re...y-history.aspx

    https://www.gwyneddfhs.co.uk

There is also a Gwynedd FHS group on Facebook, which isn't part of the society so you don't have to be a member to join.

The Society itself has a lot of church records /memorial inscriptions which might be useful.
