Hi, I am trying to find out more about my Dad's career in the RAF. I believe it wasn't for long but I have a bundle of letter he sent back to his parents between 1945 and 1946.
His name was Ivan J Drage and he belonged to 541 Squadron. He set sail to the Gold Coast in 1945 and was stationed in Takoradi working with Radar. I also have a lot of pictures he took whilst over there which I have made up into an album.
From his letters I can see he actually enjoyed his time over there. He ended up in Accra in 1946 and thats about all I know.
I do know that he would have dearly loved to have flown (hence the RAF) but sadly failed his medical on his eyesight.
Any further information anyone can give me would be greatly received
thank you
Jan

Service records for personnel who served after 1921 are still held by the Ministry of Defence. Details of how to apply, along with links to the relevant forms which you have to send, can be found at https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...-WW2-amp-after
It will cost thirty pounds and you will also need to send a photocopy of your father's death certificate. If you no longer have a copy, then you can get another one from the GRO. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
The records will probably take two or three months to arrive.

See about half way down column 1. Also tab back 1 page to find out what it's all about.
If it is "Jared" have found a marriage notice in the Cheshire Observer (inc photo) of a 1948 marriage."dyfal donc a dyr y garreg"
