Default Help identifying place in Cornwall

Can someone with a good knowledge of Cornwall tell me where William RANSON might have been born? His South African Death Notice at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61...749&cat=331262 appears to say he was born in "Pancams", but I may be misreading it. I can't see anything like that on the map.

Looking at it again, I wonder if it could be a wonky spelling of Penzance?

    Hi Sue

The first letter appears to be a P and the list of Cornish village names on Wikipedia includes numerous Cornish places starting with this letter. You may be right that it is Penzance but the second letter looks more like an a to me. It could also be Pennance on that basis. However I suspect that you may be on a non-starter with this one because the handwriting is so bad and it seems likely that the writer wasn't sure what he'd been told or how to spell it.

    cheers

    Nothing immediately springs to mind!
The end of the word looks (a little) like carris.
There is a Nancarris Mill near Falmouth, but that's the nearest I can get.

    Sorry

Thanks folks. At least I'm not missing anything too obvious.

I tried to be clever and looked for a baptism for a William Ranson/Ransom 1770-1820 on the Cornwall OPC site, but without any luck. Also checked Devon towns and parishes on Genuki in case he was born in one of those places 'on the border' or in case his parents moved counties when he was small. but without anything obvioous showing up.

Between different accents, people not knowing how to spell names/know where places are, and dreadful writing you might be on a definite loser there, Sue.

I tried OPC as well so glad I didn't miss anything. At least I have found his marriage in London so have something for my bicentennial 1820 settler project. Thanks for looking.
