Default Help, Letter from King after WW1

Can anyone help me, I'm trying to locate a letter my great grandfather received from the king after WW1 thanking him for all his sons fighting in the war and several never came home. I don't know where to start looking

I've not seen a personal letter from the King, but there are examples of the standard Lord Kitchener/Lord Derby sympathy messages in WO 363 (WW1 Service Records on Ancestry).

For example: SCO section: page 67109 (Derby) & page 48637 (Kitchener)

    (Page numbers refer to Ancestry)

If it was a personal letter from the King then my guess would be that if a copy exists it might be in the Royal Archives.

This is a link to the web site and I would suggest that you try contacting them and asking them the question. We would all be interested to know the answer.

My understanding is that there were very many "personal letters" from the king, issued in various different circumstances.

This newspaper article describes one type of letter (to returning PoWs)

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...100-years.html

Note the paragraphs describing the technology used and the statement that "there is no record in the Royal Archives of the names, or numbers of those to whom the message was given". I'm sure that this also applies to bereavement letters.

I imagine that such a letter would only have survived if it had been passed down with family papers.
