It looks to me that between us we have cracked it depending upon why Paul, the original poster, thought that Fred was Francis's dad.

WOW so much to take in!! I cannot thank you all enough.

I am registered with GRO and just received Fred's death cert.(no clues there)

I did find the link to Bertha some years ago but didn't think it was relevant at the time.(Still not convinced)

I will request the birth cert "Francis Rixon 1884 D quarter Marylebone Vol 1A Page 566 no mother's maiden name".

    Thanks again

Re the bit in bold and underlined - trust me, you are the only contributor to this thread who is not convinced , one million percent, that Bertha is Francis Richard Rixon's mother.

ADDED: The only clue you would have got from Fred's death certificate would be if it said that the death had been registered by his son, Francis Richard Rixon. But as we have proved Francis is not Fred's son, that would never have been the case.

That's why I ordered it and it states his son Edward James,(from Fred's second marriage to Annie Mould) registered Fred's death.

I will now re-visit the Bertha route thanks to all of your valued contributions.
