Thanks Mitch.....I do have a death for John Ward, 1720 Ticknall but I'm going to have a play with that marriage of John Ward Clarke to Sarah Birch 1689 and look for another Sarah Ward burial after that date. Thanks for that Mitch.

Just wondering if that 1720 burial describes him as a Clerk, or if it might be someone else (a son, perhaps)?

The reason is that I've been looking a bit further and found a few references to a John Ward, based mainly on the Cambridge Alumni database at https://venn.lib.cam.ac.uk/acad/2018/search-2018.html

There are a lot of John Wards, but you can narrow down the results by restricting it to Derbyshire, and the one that caught my eye had the reference WRT669J. I'm not saying this is definitely him, and there might also be possible matches in the Oxford Alumni (no database, but printed copies available at Internet Archive with the title Alumni Oxonienses), but the dates and places are relatively close to what you're looking at.

This man, according to the Cambridge Alumni, held a post at Derby School from 1675-1693. (It mentions a post in Sawbridgeworth 1678-91, but if correct, he can't have lived in both.) Then it mentions a post in Mickleover from 1691 until his death in 1740.

It's possible that more than one person has been confused here - it's a common name - but given how close they are, it seems to me that the Derby and Mickleover ones could be the same.

To finish off, the Clergy Database has them as two separate individuals (a) Derby School, and (b) Sawbridgeworth and Mickleover, with entries as follows:

    https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp...PersonID=60400

    https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp...PersonID=60397

Hello arthurk.....I really don't know what to make of this. It's like throwing the cat among the pigeons. I cannot connect to your first supplied link for whatever reason. And I've looked at the other two but as i said above I really don't know what to make of it. John Ward death only says John ward buried. Would it be usual to have the word Clarke after his name on his children's baptisms. If so, that word is not on the baptisms. Also I cannot find a marriage for a John Ward to a Sarah Unknown around the 1663-1666 timeframe, their first child being bapt. 1666. I am of the opinion that very likely the John Ward Clarke does not belong to me. Also the 1740 death of a John Ward you have found would make my John Ward 97 years of age. I feel I have exhausted all avenues that I am familiar with in finding a marriage for him to a Sarah but am going to give it one more shot this evening. I feel I have a responsibility to the people that copy my tree to have the correct information....Hahaha. You've really put in a considerable amount of effort here and I thank you very much .......LizzieB

I think the problem is that when I copied the link something automatically converted it to https: (which it isn't). So either click the link as above, then when it fails change https: to http: - or else copy and paste the following
    Code:
    venn.lib.cam.ac.uk/Documents/acad/2018/search-2018.html
Incidentally, I should also have mentioned that you can also access the Oxford Alumni at Ancestry, if you have a subscription. They provide a basic searchable index, and that leads to images of the same printed volumes as are available for browsing at the Internet Archive.
