Mis-filed as MARCH in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363), calling himself JAMES HENRY, I suspect that this man is JAMES HARPER MURCH:
(As James Henry) he enlisted in March 1916 but was not called up until June 1918 when he declared his age as 30y 94d, born April 1888, Umberleigh, Devon.
In 1918 he was living & working (as an Engine Fitter) in Wallsend on Tyne.
Served with the Royal Engineers as Pte 43740 until de-mob in 1920, when he went home to Umberleigh (father: James).
Birth of a James Henry not found - but there is a James Harper Murch Q2 1888, S Molton.
