I’m doing my family history on my mother’s side, have managed to get as far back as 1816 my g grandfather x3 called Joseph Beevis was a tailor and lived in Glemsford suffolk. I’ve noticed tailoring appears a lot in that family line . Would appreciate any information on the beevis family.

As a point from which to work this is your Joseph in the 1841 census? Name mistranscibed.

Joseph Beaves 25 Tailor born in county? Yes
    Mary Ann Beaves 20 yes
    Elizebeth Beaves 3 yes
    Joseph Beaves 2 yes

So if this is your Joseph's birth age 2 above Joseph snr's wife is Mary nee Allen.

From familysearch.org Joseph Beavis and Mary Allen were married 1 March 1837 at Glemsford, Suffolk. Unfortunately just a few months too early to be on the official marriage register which started in September that year and would have named his father.

I moved (and done a small edit) on your last post and my reply post, to the Suffolk forum as it has become a research post. I will leave your original post in the Introduce Yourself forum.

ancestry really have messed up Joseph's surname in the censuses but he has given his birthplace in 1851/61/91 as Stoke by Clare Suffolk. Haven't found a baptism as yet.

    Closest I can find is

Joseph Bavis bapt. 16 April 1818 Cowling St Margaret parents John and Mary

Cowling is about 6 miles from Stoke by Clare.
