Yes, I picked that up as well. Charles should be a farmer and Frederick is a Motor Car Cleaner. That's quite the change from a Cabinet Maker in 3 years.

I agree but I have found occupations do change. I have a tree where one person was a baker on one census , then a Railway Guard on another. Frederick was a Motor Mechanic in 1939 still in the motor trade. I can't find a baptism for the son (on the 1939) - this is becoming very annoying that I can't find anything!!

On the 1939 register Frederick W was born on the 17 July 1914. The marriage of Frederick and Alice took place on the 4 August 1914. The birth reg. of Frederick shows that his mother's maiden name was Kelly, so it is a son.

Going over the page on the 1939 register there is a Charles R May born 22 October 1919 - Butcher and a Sidney F born 14 July 1922 - Unemployed. There are also 4 closed records which suggests that there must have been at least 7 children.

No help in tracing Charles William though.

How old was Alice on the marriage certificate?

If she was born in 1884 (as the 1939 register states) she would have been 38 when Sidney was born. There were 3 more children after Sidney possibly Irene, Maisie and Leslie but Alice would be 44 at Leslie's birth.

I have found entries on the Electoral Rolls:

    All for 14 Glenalmond Avenue
    1946 - Frederick H, Frederick W, Charles R, Alice M
1947 & 1949 - as above but also with Sidney
    1955 Alice M, Charles R, Frederick H, Norman A, Trevor G

All this really tells us us that Alice and Frederick were still alive in 1955 and that two of the children were Norman and Trevor.

Just found a death registration for Alice M May - Harrow 1962 age 68. That makes her birth 1894, perhaps that dob is a little more realistic when you look at the birth dates of the children.
