    Default WARD FAMILY OF CAMBRIDGESHIRE/ELY

My GGGG Grandmother was born Ely, Cambrideshire England. I am having no luck finding her maiden name. I don't think her birth family was from the area and I don't think they were originally from England. Is there anyway of cross referencing this information.

Her name with marriage name is: Mary Ann Ward, or maybe just Ann. Her husbands name was Thomas Ward Married around 1815 somewhere in Cambridgeshire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello hongkong1956,

    Welcome to British-Genealogy.

Tracing families prior to 1837 when civil registeation began in England and Wales can often be difficult, especially when you have a fairly common name such as Ward. (Not as bad as Smith or Jones, though, so count your blessings!)

First question - have you found Thomas and Mary/Ann in a census? Preferably the 1851 where you should hopefully be able to find a birthplace for them. We need places and ages, with the actual census references a bonus.

What other records do you have to make Thomas and Mary/Ann your ancestors? (e.g. baptisms of their children)

    Hi

Thank you for responding so quickly. Sadly, she passed away in 1831. Whatever records I've looked only include the surname Ward. She passed away in Witchford.

In 1851 Daniel is shown as born 1835, Witchford, so before general registration in 1837

    Hi

I know she was born in Ely around 1795 and passed away December, 1831 in Witchford. Perhaps I worded wrong.

Thank you for your replay. Daniel was born by a second marriage. Thomas Ward married twice, and I believe Daniel was from the second marriage. I'm looking for information also on Jane Ward from Thomas' marriage to Mary Ann or Ann. Thank you
