Hi
First time on this forum, so not quite sure how it works BUT. My fathers was with the RHA, Essex Yeomanry, based in the middle east. I have a photo with him and his regiment but the front of the photo says "414 Bty RHA" but dad has written "104th RHA Essex Yeomanry" on the back of the photo.
I don't seem to be able to get any information on his regiment. He told me a story of a terrible tragedy with a tank convoy and I would like to get more details on this.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?
Many Thanks
Karen

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums
If you came to us from Forces War Records this will explain the connection.
Wikipedia has this to say about the 104th
"104th (Essex Yeomanry) Regiment, RHA
The first line regiment went to the Middle East in 1940 and served in most of the Western Desert battles, notably the Battle of El Alamein and the Siege of Tobruk. It went on to fight in the Italian Campaign and was stood-down in Austria in 1946."
Also "In 1942 an Essex Yeomanry battery from 104th Regiment RHA was sent to Burma with the 7th Armoured Brigade to cover the withdrawal from Rangoon to Imphal."
This National Archives guide to WW11 may help you find the information you are looking for.

I very much doubt it.
I did try searching for an association connected to the 104th but haven't found one.
The National Archives has war diaries but is a bit cumbersome to search (imo) but I couldn't get anything to come up searching with variations on the wordsv104th/Essex/Regiment. Searching on Royal Horse Artillery got me this page

HI Karen
Movements of 104 RHA is here - https://web.archive.org/web/20160303...ha/page10.html - includes 404 battery
Although this is a current list it does show regiment and battery and explains the difference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...lery_batteries
So your Dad was in 414 battery 104 Royal Horse Artillery.
War diaries are here, amongst others - https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ro=any&_st=adv
The diaries will not mention men but may have a report on the accident.
They are not online, you have to go there to view them or pay someone to get photos of them.
