Default Help with pic of my grandfather army uniform

I am trying to research my grandfathers military history, he never spoke of the war but what I have found out is.

He was born James O'hara in 1920, born in Glasgow I have on 24th June 1940 he was in Loughborough, Leicestershire with a Military Serial number 2937670. he embarked for overseas service 1943.

Roughly what we know from family members is he was in the Cameron highlanders & during WW2 he was in Greece, Italy, Monte Cassino.

This is the best picture I have of him in uniform, I cannot find what the badge is on his sleeve & the badge on his cap does not look like Cameron highlanders & it also looks like he is sitting in front of a aircraft.

Any help on this would be greatly apprieciated

    Hi

His service number indicates he did join up in the Cameron Highlanders - Cameron Highlanders 2921001 - 2966000 from https://ww2talk.com/index.php?threads...ocations.4837/
The link does not work (cutting and pasting), it would be easier if you could post a picture here.

The link worked for me after editing (sorry, but we have to do it, especially with commercial sites), but this is better!

His shoulder patch should also provide a clue. You may be right about him changing regiments - that cap badge doesn't look right for the Camerons, but I may be wrong.

To me the cap badge looks like The Gordon Highlanders. The arm badge seems to be the Army Air Corp. I hazard a guess that the crosses show how many missions he had been on.

I've had a look at the imgur image and now feel that what I'd taken as crosses is a tartan patch, which does look like the Camerons. Likewise, the cap badge on imgur does better look like the Camerons.

Thanks for looking it was the eagle on his arm that image I could not find exactly but I did think it was something to do with air corp, these are all of the other pictures I have of him

He did mention he was at monte casino, was a sergeant, but when I put his service number in or even his name to sites I get nothing. A man of mystery I think.

No mystery. Simply that service records for anyone who served after 1921 are still held by the Ministry of Defence. https://www.british-genealogy.com/fo...757#post585757

The only sort of records that you will find on any sites are those which refer to a specific 'event', and to records which are probably held at The National Archives. e.g. prisoner of war records.

If you don't have a copy of his death certificate, then if he died in England or Wales you need to apply to the GRO. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
(That is the correct link, in spite of the misleading Passport Office heading.)
If he died in Scotland, then you need Scotlands People. https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

If you look at Google Images, the eagle of the Army Air Corps is shown facing in either direction on cap badges, and the one facing left is very like that shoulder patch. It seems to be associated with glider pilots (but not always). My problem with the cap badge is what looks like a gap going from the centre to right of the top.

The AAC didn't form until 1942, which would explain the change from the Camerons. Have a look at the badge on Wikipedia's entry for the Glider Pilot Regiment.
