Thanks. Have looked at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre online catalogue but can't see any records relating to John Talbot. Am reluctant to travel from Yorkshire unless something there

Thanks. I have a copy of John Talbot's will proven at the Perogative Court of Canterbury. He had property in Marnhull, Shaftsbury and Todber in Dorset. I've checked their parish registers but no Talbot's there. Will check the Dorset Archives catalogue for any records of Talbot property purchase in those places.
Have checked Jamaica records but John Talbot didn't come up in the search. Think it may be a red herring.

Update. I've checked the Dorset parish registers at www.opcdorset.org but nothing found. I've also downloaded all the probable PCC wills at the National Archives. Again no luck
