Gaunt - Staffordshire

Hi, I've hit a bit of a brick wall with my family search.. I've managed to get back to 1798-1801 (I believe he was undecided on what age he was.....)

Head -William Gaunt 1795 or 1801 - 1866
Wife 2.0 - Mary Gaunt (BUCK) - 1811 - 1876
Thomas Gaunt 1835 - 1889
Harriet Gaunt 1837 - 1849
Hannah Gaunt 1840 - ?
Sarah Gaunt 1843 - ?
Mary Armstrong (Gaunt) 1845 - 1889
Benjamin Gaunt 1852 - ?
John Gaunt 1855 - ?

So it says here (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_re...6-11?locale=en) that the Marriage Date was Jun 1850, and he was 50, and he was a Widower (which would put his DOB at 1800/1)

So who was his wife before hand? (and the mother to Thomas - Mary??)

And here Thomas was baptised in 1835 (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_re...8-23?locale=en) and his Mother was Also called Mary...

So either he married someone.. they died (for him to get Widower status), and William and Mary didn't get married for 15 years (unlikely in those times??) or he just re-married someone else called Mary (Mary 2.0)? back in 1850?? So confused...

So thats one mess im currently struggling with..

Now the other... Who was Williams Mother and Father?? I know his Father was also called William (its on the parish wedding thing), but no mention of his mother.

Ugh.. i have a headache...

I can't see any birth registrations for the above names with a mother's maiden name of Buck

familysearch has a baptism of a Mary Sotherton at Tipton 4 July 1813 father Jonathon, mother Sarah.

I see William Gaunts father was a bricklayer (from the marriage record) and one of the witnesses was a Sarah Ann Gaunt.
I can't see a marriage for a Mary Sotherton on familysearch.org or FreeReg.

Death registration West Bromwich Sept 1/4 1847 Mary Gaunt age 34 vol18 page 396. Could this be his first wife?

Freereg has the burial at St Bartholomews Wednesbury 24 September 1847

On census returns, William is born Rugeley. I therefore think this is him with a mis-spelt surname.

William Gant, baptism St Augustine, Rugeley, Staffordshire
10th Jan 1802
Parents Willm and Hannah Gant.
The baptism is also on family search where the surname is spelt GAUNT

This looks a probable marriage as Armitage is only about 3 miles from Rugeley
12th Sept 1796, Armitage, St John the Baptist.

That burial is on family search where it says William was 1yr old, he therefore was born 1804 or late 1803.
