    Hello all,
I am asking for help to find out a relatives employer in 1864 in England. The relative was a gentleman's coachman. Is there any way to check records to see the person (s) he worked for?

I think the basic answer is 'no'.

Have you found him in the 1861 and 1871 census? He may be listed as part of the household of his employer and if it's the same person then I think you could assume that was his employer in 1864.

Alternatively, if he's listed as coachman to one of the aristocracy in either of the census then family records of the employer may survive, which detail when the coachman was hired/fired.

If he was working for an upperclass Family, his address at each census should provide a clue. Staff tended to live in, or at least in the estate. Even of the owner was not present on census night, if you know the estate, it’s usually possible to find out who the owner was.
