    Default Moradadbad Police Trainig College

My Great Uncle Herbert James Thom was Principal of the Police Training School in Moradadbad in India and also Commandant of the Military Police. I think there are some photo's of this in the British India Library can any one help me find this photo and details of his service in India

The Western Mail, 19 Oct 1948, in reporting his appointment as South Wales Traffic Commissioner, included
" ... Mr Thom was deputy inspector general of Police and head of the CID in the United Provinces of India from 1940-1945 and the Transport Commissioner for the United Provinces until 1947 ..."

    Someone's got a long memory!

gengrant - in your quest to find out how to access various records you might want to re-read some of the answers in yet another thread you have about Herbert.

That thread has also been closed.

    British Newspaper Archive (BNA)
Re. "... all this information ..." click on https://britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/advanced

    Click on "Advanced search"
Put h j thom in "Use exact phrase" and Search
    Select Western Mail under "Newspaper"
The snippets returned will give a flavour of his activities within that Traffic Area. When you've exhausted checking those snippets

Repeat h j thom initial search
Select South East England under "Regions"

To view the actual articles - BNA is a subscription site. The same articles are also available via FindMypast (with the right level of subscription).

You can widen your search using full name or combination of given name/initial.

Not all items returned relate to your Herbert James

    Pob lwc/good luck
