    Default Help - please.

Have been trying to work out the following for a while now and not getting anywhere.
Hoping someone can help: I have 2 sisters (convicts) and their records both state Middling.
does this mean they were of the middle class or was there an offence of "middling"?
Also - I have Irish prison records for both which state their native place as Co Wexford
parish of (looks like) Couslau..... Can someone know the correct parish? So far have tried everything I know to work it out.
Records are: find my past - Irish Prison Registers - Mary Burke & Anne Burke
    11-4-1848 Wicklow Prison (Page 769).
    Thanks. Jeddah.

Have you looked on Genuki, here, to see if the parishes listed in Co Wexford look like the one you are trying to decipher?

I wonder if it is an attempt to capture the parish of Camolin - spelt Camolan?

I cant see where is says 'Middling'. The conviction was for maliciously breaking two pieces of glass in the windows of Rathdrum Workhouse. Sentenced to 1 month with labour or pay 11/4 fine & 2/11 costs.

Hi, the term "Middling" is stated on their convict records in Tasmania. It's a mystery.
    Thanks. Jeddah.

If they were on the Earl Grey 1849 then I think the 'Middling' relates to their conduct. If you read others on the ship they all follow the same pattern, and after the number of times previously convicted it then says things like 'good', 'very good', 'middling', 'bad' etc
