    Default Emigrated to Argentina

    Hi,

I´m looking for my great grandparents who emigrated from Great Britain to Argentina. James Main born 1827 most likely in Irland or Skottland And might have emigrated in mid-1800 to Argentina. He married Susane/Juanna Levi or Leiva born around 1830 could be anywhere in the UK. They were agricultures in Entre Rios Argentina. What I want to know is more from the British background before they emigrated.

Grateful for anything who can spread light on this.

    Kind regards Anahi Börde

When and where were their children born?
Have you found them on English census?

Hi and thanks for a quick response.

I have found some possibilities in some English/Britsih census, but hard to match them as I can´t find any travel documents.

As far as I know, they emigrated separately and meet in Argentina.

In Argentina (Province of Entre Rios) they had several children:

    1.Carlos Main born 1857
    2.Catalina Main - 1859
    3.Susan Main - 1867
    4.Santiago Main -1870
    5.Juana Natalia Main Levi -1872
    6.Guillermo Main -1876
7.Carolina Main -1879- [I][I]This is my greatgrandmother.....if my investigation is correct.
    8.Elisabeth or Eugenia Main -18??
    9.Maria Main - 18??

    I see Santiago (James) Main - aged 68 - on the Argentine 1895 census with wife Susana LEVE/LEVO (?) - aged 56 and two children Guillermo, 19, and Maria (?), 14 (?)

it looks as if in Argentine records wives keep their maiden names (?)

I think our Swedish friend has a public tree on Ancestry suggesting that Susannah LEVI was born at Saffron Walden on 9 September 1833 (which would make her only 6 years younger than her husband ?)

the suggested name Juana LEIVA (opening post above) comes from a baptism in Chile on 6 February 1833.

if the ages on the 1895 census are correct I think James's wife was born c.1839.
