    I did a search for Windmill End and found a Mullett family there in 1861, but they didn't have a Joseph. Here's the family.

    1861, Windmill End, Dudley. RG 9; Piece: 2062; Folio: 23; Page: 10;
    James Mullet 45; Roda Mullet 45; John Mullet 19; Roda Mullet 15; Sarah Mullet 8; Ann Maria Mullet 5
    I think that the James Mullett who married Eliza Homer in 1858(and who had a son Joseph b 1859) is a James Mullett b 1837, son of James and Rhoda Mullett mentioned in the 1861 census you have found.
    I haven't found James b1837 with Eliza and son Joseph in 1861 so far, just in 1871

    I'm back after falling asleep on the sofa. I'll probably be awake all night now, oh dear!

    Back to business.

    Yes Grisel, In 1851 census James and Rhoda have a son James age 13 (indexed 23yrs by Ancestry but original looks like 13)

    It's interesting to note that Joseph and Louisa had a daughter named Eliza RHODA (perhaps named after Joseph's Grndmother)

    Searching for Louisa before 1881 is proving difficult. I haven't pinned her down in censuses or found a birth registration. There's the one in 1866 which you mentioned but after her birth reg there's nothing and I do think that birth is too late for your Louisa.

    The nearest birth record I have found is this.

    BROWNSWORD, LOUISA, MMN PARSONS
    GRO Reference: 1859 J Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 96

    However, could Brownsword be misheard for Brownsett, or vice versa, I'm not convinced.

    This is the marriage for that Louisa's parents.

    It looks like Joseph & Louisa also had a daughter named Selina, born & died 1903:

    As an aside, my GG Grandmother was also living at Cambridge Street, Stockton in the 1881 census (and for the next 20 years). My GG Grandfather had deserted her the year before, but he too was a Puddler. I know the area well if there's anything I can help with.

    It seems I was wrong and Brownsett Brownsword and even Brownswood are sometimes confused. I do therefore think it possible Louisa Brownsword is yours. Wolstanton was a registration district for Kidsgrove. Now to try and pin Louisa Brownsett/Brownsword/Brownswood down.

    It's becoming confusing eek!

    This could be the William above at #26

    1851, Burslem HO107; Piece: 2003; Folio: 487; Page: 31;
    Joseph Brownsett 57, Norton
    Mary Brownsett 40, Norton
    William Brownsett 20, Norton
    Henry Brownsett 14, Norton
    James Brownsett 11, Burslem
    Mary Brownsett 6, Burslem
    Daniel Brownsett 3 Mo, Burslem

    Henry was christened using two different surnames.
    Baptism, Norton in the Moors, Staffs. Dec 15th 1837
    Henry son of Joseph (a miner) and Mary Brownsett OR Sherrat, abode Brownedge.

    This Joseph would seem to be from the same family and he's a possible for Louisa's father, which could be why we're finding it difficult to pin Louisa down.
    Baptism, Norton in the Moors, Staffs. Mar 24th 1829.
    Joseph Sherrat son of Joseph (a miner) and Mary Sherrat, abode Brownedge.

    1841, a mistranscription on Ancestry, FMP have correctly transcribed the name as Sherratt
    North Pirehill, Burslem. HO107; Piece: 987; Book: 16; Folio: 24; Page: 3;

    I don't think it can be the same Louisa as if her she would be a maximum of 6 months.
